This is a PAYPAL ONLY auction, with payment due within 3 days of auction end. Please do not bid if you cannot comply with these terms. From an estate sale, this wonderful vintage desk lamp measures approx. 17 1/2" tall (to top of finial) x 13 1/4" across shade x 6" across the base and appears to be made of several metal types, with some parts looking like patinated brass, others possibly brass or bronze finished steel. Other than an attached pen holder that is marked SHAEFFER'S, MADE IN U.S.A. PAT'D., which is made of brown plastic (possibly bakelite), the entire lamp is metal, including the shade and is quite heavy (approx. 6 lbs.). The bottom is signed FARIES MFG. CO., along with some other numbers and letters I can't make out. The retro mushroom shape would work well in an arts & crafts, art deco or machine age decor. When I first saw this I assumed it was most likely a Bradley & Hubbard, Norman Bel Geddes or BauHaus creation, and was surprised when I found the Faries marking, which I was unfamilar with. After a bit of research, I did learn that Faries Manufacturing Company began in 1894 in Decatur, Illinois and did create many machine age deco style lamps (among other things) that are considered very collectible. This does have wear to the finish, with some scratches and discoloration, plus the interior of the lampshade, which is painted an off-white color, has some spots of paint loss and wear, as does the light bulb holder. The bottom had a partial covering, which was removed (remnants remain around the edge), revealing wiring that I would recommend having checked out or perhaps redone. I did plug it in and it works fine, and I was told it had been in use up until the time of the estate sale, but I would be concerned over such old wiring. The Shaeffer pen holder also has some fading to the color, mainly on one side, and minor corrosion on the metal parts (sorry, no pen was included). Even with the old age flaws, I think you can see what a fabulous old lamp this is. As a vintage item, sold as-is, so please ask questions prior to bidding. S/H will be via boxed priority mail. Please refer to the calculator to determine the rate for your location. Delivery confirmation and a very small packing material fee is included in the total. E-mail contact is required within 2 days, payment DUE within 3 days of auction end. Failure to comply to these terms can result in your bid being voided. Due to a steady increase in non-paying & late paying bidders (all of which were not using Paypal), I am forced to change payment options to PAYPAL PAYMENT ONLY. Sorry! THANKS FOR LOOKING AND HAPPY BIDDING!! After purchasing,
