1930's RARE MUESSEL (DREWRY'S) SILVER EDGE BEER CRATE South Bend, Indiana Brewery19" Wide x 12" Deep x 11" High Back story of Muessel's Silver Edge Beer labeled on this crate is fascinating. From sites including , , and , and ProfessionalFootballResearcher'sAssociation: Muessel's Brewery was present in South Bend, Indiana, beginning in the mid-19th century. In 1913-14 they created a couple professional football teams for advertising purposes, one of which was called Silver Edge, and both teams were coached by then Notre Dame student, Knute Rockne. The brewery was closed during Prohibition, but started back up with the Silver Edge and other brand name beer production from 1933 to 1936, when it was sold to Drewry's. This crate is in very good vintage condition. It has been cleaned and is ready to use. The metal binding strips are all in good shape with no missing nails. Hinges are complete and work well. The latch seems complete and works freely. Paint on all sides is bright. There are a few split areas that shouldn't affect its usefulness or overall appearance. It has the marking "over 80 years" and "since 1852", and with knowing the back story on this brewery, we estimate it was probably made in the period between 1933-1936.Please look at the pictures and ZOOM.
