This rod is in good condition except a repair wrap is needed above the male ferrule to fish. This is a very desirable 7-1/2 foot length and 4 ounce weight. It can be a light trout or panfish rod. The action would indicate a 4 or possibly a 3 weight line. A 5/8-inch split in one flat and another 3/4-inch split between two flats exist above the male ferrule. Two photos are included showing this area. The solution is some glue (Gorilla Glue works well), fine white silk thread and varnish. Due to the extent of this repair, this rod should be fishable after the repair wrap is made. IF desired, I can accomplish the repair wrap. Send a message for my quote or for other pictures. Both sections are intact and full length at 45-1/2 inches long. The ferrule is Horrocks-Ibbotson new old stock and was professional replaced by a local fly shop. However, waxing is necessary for a snug fit. H-I was not known for precise tolerances. Tip section: Slight set to the left and very fishable as is. Wraps are green and not variegated. T are two or three pots of green paint on the tip. Base section: Flamed cane and swelled butt with Princess written in lovely green script below the trout decal “Horrocks-Ibbotson Co. – Utica, NY”. Wraps are variegated and darker than tip. Two snake guides have good wraps but the original hardware probably included a stripper guide instead. Bag: Original green cotton in very good condition for seventy-plus years. A portion of paper label remains. T is one tie near the bottom. Finish: Is acceptable for fishing. Grip: Cork has pitting but is acceptable. Grip is in orignal condition and has NOT been varnished or sanded. Winding check is very good. Threaded Bakelite reel seat works as intended and has normal wear. Rod Tube: Non-original aluminum case has screw portion missing from top but the cap stays on fairly well. I have shown the 1941 catalog page but I am guessing this rod dates from sometime in the 1930’s. The 1928 catalog does not list this model but an internet site suggests that this decal was last used in 1929. (I am unsure of that date.) One thing for sure, this trout decal was the most beautiful used by Horrocks-Ibbotson and is in almost complete condition. The 1941 catalog lists the Princess as a 7 foot model with two tips. This 7-1/2 foot model is earlier. The rod’s bag would indicate this model had only one tip. The Princess would appear to be the forerunner of the Tonka Prince. Questions are welcome. Please see my other auctions of vintage fly rods to combine shipping. Your satisfaction is guaranteed with a seven day inspection period. No refund is made on shipping or listing fees. Best Regards.
