This is a vintage Deauville powder compact by Richard Hudnut, circa 1930s. The classic art deco compact is made of chromed brass and measures 2-1/8 inches in diameter. The lid has an art deco graphic in black and red enamel, and the bottom has a wavy embossing that also looks deco. The lid opens by pushing a spring catch on the rim opposite the hinge. Inside, t is a circular mirror, powder compartment, and original blue puff. The rim of the mirror is marked: DEAUVILLE | RICHARD HUDNUT | MADE IN U.S.A . The metal rim of the powder compartment has two patent numbers, the later one corresponding to a date of 1931. Both in date and design, this is a true art deco piece. The compact comes in its original cardboard box measuring 2.75 inches in diameter. The two-piece box has a velour insert that holds the compact snugly. The lid is marked " DEAUVILLE ", and the bottom has a sticker that reads " RACHEL | LOOSE POWDER ". Condition is Excellent; it is clean and bright and has near perfect chrome with no physical damage or pitting. T are just a very few light brush marks on the surface. The interior is excellent, but it does have old powder in it so all the inside surfaces are dusty. I'm leaving it uncleaned; you can decide whether to clean away all the old powder or let it as is. The box is excellent as well. Successful bidder please add
