Offered at no reserve is a circa 1930s sweet little Yeii Navaho weaving that measures 3 feet long by 1 foot 7 inches wide. It is attributed to the Gallup area and is in very good to excellent condition. It was woven by an expert weaver on a primitive upright loom of Native hand shorn, hand carded and smoothly handspun Merino sheep wool weft on a cotton cord warp. This decorative piece has what we believe to be some vegetal prickly pear dyeing. Few Gallups have vegetal dyed colors due to it being so time consuming in this time period compared to convenient commercial dyes being available. Each of the 3 lady dancers are adorned with earrings, necklaces and tassels dangling from hand, elbow and skirts. We obtained this vintage Native American textile in Taos , NM just to offer to you on eBay. It has a weft count averaging 18 per inch and a warp count of 9 per inch. The selvage cords are all original and complete. Warp selvages are 2 spiral cords and weft selvages are natural weft loop finished around the outside warps. The corners are tight original and in excellent condition. Three tassels are present and in excellent condition and one is missing. No wear, no holes, no odors, no moth nibbles, no fade and no snags. It is pretty clean and comes from a non-smoking home. T are areas of red bleed into the white. A professional can probably get all or most of this out if desired. Both sides are even in color and are shown in photos below. It lays flat & smooth and is symmetrical. Colors are bright and strong in this old American Indian carpet and they are: natural ivory along with hand dyed colors of aniline transitional orange, aniline purplish maroon, aniline dark brown or black, aniline red, aniline dark bluish green and what looks to be a vegetal prickly pear mauve red. This example of near antique Native Americana is ready to display in your own hacienda, or just tuck away in your private rug + blanket collection. Paypal only on this item.
