1930s TRIBAL NOMAD UZBEK SILK IKAT ROBE RICH COLORS & COPPER MEDALLIONS O ffered is Uzbek nomadic celebratory wedding robe . Silk-ikat, atlas interlacing, ornamented abrbandy - knit warp. It is decorated with copper medallions, manual embroidery and silk tassels with beads. This robe is from one of nomad tribes from Surkhandarya or Kashkadarya region. 1930s. Absolutely stunning rich colors and great oriental pattern, colorful and contrast. Smooth, brilliant and soft cloth. This silk - atlas is really pride of Uzbekistan. It is mainly patterned. The main peculiarity is the illigibility and dimness of the outlines. In Central Asia this device is called abrbandi , and the fabric is known as abr cloth. The main thing in maiking abr cloth is to secure an iridenscence of colour patches with illegible outlines in the pattern.In abr cloth the threads of the warp that make up the pattern merge automatically while being tucked into the loom; the outlines of the pattern become illigible, making it hard to dicern its form, and the threads gradually change from one contrasting colour to another. "Abr" means "cloud". Abr fabrics, by one legend, for the first time have been made in imitation reflection in water of a pond of running clouds, and on other legend iridescent stains, turned out from oil was poured in hauz - small pool. They say masters sometimes poured oil intentionally, to find inspiration for creation of new patterns. This way of an ornament of silk is based on ornamentation and dyeing of an available basis. The techniques of making abr patterns are very difficult: it is based on application of a reserve and demands huge work. In consequence of it only experts' so-called abrbands own the art of silk weaving. Good used condition. The size is: length-51 in, chest - 50 in, From the end of one sleeve up to another - 75 in.
