1930s UZBEK SILK HANDMADE EMBROIDERED SUZANI KIRPECH WITH RARE ZOOMORPHIC PATTERN Offered is attractive decorative Suzani from Tashkent region, Uzbekistan. It was made in 1930-40's. Hand-emroidery with silk threads on cotton fabric. Excellent condition. Natural silk, exceptional oriental design and saturated colors. This exquisite piece is real small masterpiece, which has been made with skill and love. Until recently the peoples of Uzbekistan, like other nations, attributed great meaning to the magic power of certain objects, plants and animals, aimed to use them as talisman against the agency of evil spirits. This piece is full of symbolism and cosmological sacred meaning. The main motif is circles and spirals. Spiral pattern is zoomorphic symbol - ram's horn. It was used to extremplify strength, courage and protection. This ornament was colored as usual snake depictions. Twisted snakes are rather popular ornament. Belief in the magic power of snakes would seem to be connected with ancient cult of snake veneration, traces of which are discernible to this day. The snake was a totemic animal, embodying the essence of good and evil. A multitude of positive functions were attributed to the snake (ilon). It was considered the protector of the home, family, wealth, domestic animals, grain, water, treasure, and so on. It was revered as the patron of women and children, especially newborns. Also, spiral is an ancient cosmological symbol of the spiral reffering to the universe and eternal motion. Circular patterns reflect the remains of ancient astral ideas. A circle is the cosmos, the cycle of the seasons, the sun, and the emblem of ancient god. The circle have been the symbol of heavenly body, the sun or more often the moon, the veneration of which was part of the system of people's religios ideas from ancient times. According to folk beliefs, the depiction of the sun offered protection from the evil and any impurity. Traces of Zoroastrianism were visible in the cult of the sun. The God of Sun was the chief deity of Zoroastrans. The sun was identified with the god-creator, who exists eternally in the form of radiance and can assume various forms. Anyway, presence of this Suzani gives a powerful charge of positive energy. Its size is 28-83 in. This item is offered with No Reserve, that allows to you feel free.
