Working Art Deco 1930s 202 Telephone Western Electric manufactured the 202 oval based (D1) telephone for the Bell System from the late 1920s till about 1938 when they came out with the 302 telephone which contained all of its components in one unit. The 202 telephone did not contain all the necessary components in one unit and needed a subset. The subset box housed the ringer, condenser, and induction coil. Without this box (or similar circuitry) the telephone does not work properly. This original Western Electric telephone has been re-wired with a modern printed circuit board network inside the 202 base but did not have room for a ringer. An original Western Electric 531A ringer box has been wired with the phone so that incoming calls can be heard. The brass bells ring loud and clear. The D1 base of this phone was sandblasted clean, then taken to a professional shop and powder coated with a new black glossy finish. It Looks Spectacular! It has been thoroughly cleaned and tested inside and out. The dial and switchook contacts have been burnished. The F1 Bakelite handset was buffed out to a nice glossy shine. It has no cracks or chips. The sound on both the transmitter and receiver is excellent.
