USS AKRON GOODYEAR ZEPPELIN BLIMP IN HANGER, PHOTOGRAPH 1931 Photograph of USN Dirigible "AKRON" in hanger of Goodyear Corp. The Frame Is Made Of Duralumin Used In Girder Construction Of The United States Airship "Akron" Built by The Goodyear Zeppelin Corperation.. Picture was awarded to: "HIGHWAY GARAGE" of VENUS, TEXAS AS WINNER of 3 rd ANNUAL GOODYEAR DEALERS ZEPPELIN RACE; JULY-AUGUST 1931. The history I found shows that the Akron crashed with 72 people in 1933 in the ocean. (part of the links I have given you.) is an actual historical photograph of this renowned dirigible. It is framed in some of the Duralumin used in the construction of the girders of the AKRON. The photo and the original backing are riveted together. The glass is good and the photo is very good. It is not stuck to the glass. T is no evidence of bug or water damage. The photo measures 17 ½ x 23". With frame, the overall is 20 x 26". The photo is signed by Margaret Bourke-White famous photographer and author (1904-1971) (It is a good read about her in your search.) ( ) You collectors will recognize this work quite easily. This photo and frame has been appraised quite high but is now being auctioned at quite a low reserve. One was seen in January 2008 on Antique's Roadshow appraised at $8000.00 - $12,000.00 value.
