1931 First Transatlantic Commercial Flight postcard. Carried by Lt. William S. MacLaren and Mrs. Beryl Hart on their flight in the "Trade Wind," an attempted flight NY to Paris via Bermuda and the Azores. Card is postmarked in East Orange dated January 3, 1931. Typed note to Roessler on reverse, notes "First stage made -- more difficult than expected---a series of unfortunate accidents---next jump our big test---the last stage Azores to Paris will be easy." Franked on reverse with Bermuda postage, postmarked on January 8, 1931 at St. Georges, Bermuda, and signed "MacLaren." He was right, next jump was a 'big test' which they didn't pass, they were lost enroute from Bermuda to the Azores and never heard from again. AAMC / Trans-Oceanic Record Flights 1130.
