Up for sale is a beautiful lithograph dated "1931 BROWN & BIGELOW, ST PAUL, MINN, MADE IN USA" and it has been stored in the cedar chest for 45 years. My mom was an artist and loved art, she hung many art prints around our house, when she redecorated they went into the cedar chest. This is really a special lithograph by Hy Hintermeister of a young boy asleep fishing while his dog enjoys the picnic basket. Under the picture is written 'after picture by Hy Hintermeister'. From Wikipedia: “John Henry “Hy” Hintermeister - Swiss 1869-1945; ... John worked with several calendar art companies including Brown and Bigelow, The Osborne Co., Louis F. Kemper Thomas and American Art Works. From the 1890s to the 1940s John, along with his son, Henry, worked together producing over 1,050 illustrations that were reproduced as prints and as jigsaw puzzles. ... Both Hintermeisters' works display a sense of humor, whether depicting setter pups or friends' fishing antics. They were a prolific and well-respected team." The poem is by Edgar A Guest ("....was a prolific English-born American poet who was popular in the first half of the 20th century and became known as the People's Poet . From his first published work in the Detroit Free Press until his death in 1959, Guest penned some 11,000 poems which were syndicated in some 300 newspapers and collected read more
