Wyatt Earp Frontier Marshal First Edition 1931 by Stuart N. Lake Wyatt Earp has had many stories written about him. We mostly know about him due to the gunfight by the OK Corral in Tombstone, AZ in October of 1881. His life certainly didn't begin or end there. There are many sources and tales about him, but the writing and publication of this book made Wyatt Earp and the entire West immortal for decades follows. Wyatt Earp ended up settling with Josie in Southern California, and often served as an advisor for the early movie making industry. This book was written and researched when he was still living, so there is a lot of first-hand information. He died in 1929 at the age of 80. Stuart Lake took the information he had gathered, and published the complete work in 1931. With his book's publication in 1931, Lake's true belief in the Wyatt Earp he had known started an Old West revival that created decades of Western books, movies and television. As a result, this is an important and highly collectible work. Lake's history is sometimes questionable, but his connection with Wyatt Earp was heartfelt. No other writer who knew Earp succeeded more to make the Earp name immortal, or generate a popular interest in his life that lasts until this day. This book is quite collectible and the first edition is very rare. This book is in VG/VG condition. The covers and pages are firmly intact, it has been kept in a glass front bookcase. There is some mild wear at the top and bottom of the cloth spine cover from shelfwear, and some snubbing of the tips of the covers from the same source. There are a couple of small marks on the cover(see photos), and names are inscribed on the inside cover. One is of the original giver, the second one is mine. One of the illustrations has come loose, but that can be easily repaired by someone who knows how. I don't, so I am leaving it alone. This book sells in the hundreds of dollars, it is for a collector. Even the paperback copies sell on Amazon in the high thirty dollar range. It appears it was last republished in paperback in 1994, I could not find any beyond that date. It measures 6" X 8 1/2", 392 pages including an index. , money refunded in full if not satisfied.
