You will note in the photos that I have include a picture from an auction from several years ago to give more detail to the item since I'm not an expert photo taker. This story of the medal is great! This popular toilet seat medal commemorates an attack upon Huey Long which left him with a black eye. The story goes like this. Long, the venerable "Kingfish", was attending a party at a country club in Sands Point, Long Island. A heavy drinker, Long proceeded to imbibe too much, and could not retain his customary control over his physical movements. While standing in front of the urinal, his unsteadyness caused him to soak the lower pants and shoes of a nearby relief seeker. The suprised and angered victim turned and promptly punched the inebriated Long in the eye. Th episode received wide publicity, although its most intimate details were not publicized. Seeking to embarass Long, one national magazine started a campaign for public subscriptions for a medal to reward the unknown assailant. A gold medal in the form of a toilet seat with a hanging bar was actually struck by the Medallic Art Company, and in the absence of a claimant, was presented in a formal black tie ceremony to the American Numismatic Society. Maco then struck a small number of silver and a greater but unknown number of bronze charms to commemorate the event. A description of the medal: "1933 Huey Long Toilet Seat Medal. Bronze. By George deZayas, des. (MACO) Per the original description: The shape of a toilet seat with a tiny intergal loop at the top. Obv.- A fist is shown striking the mouth of a fish and knocking off its crown. Two faucets run into a basin in the background. The date 1933, is in Roman numerals to the right. Around the bottom is the Latin legend; Publico Consilio Pro Re In Camera Gesta. The reverse is inscribed in 7 lines; By/Public/Acclaim/for a deed/Done In Private/Sands Point/August 26/1933. Thanks for looking and good luck bidding!
