It's my pleasure to offer at auction an Exceedingly Rare and Extremely Nice 1934 HEDDON NO.25 "EXPERT" 5-1/2 FT., 2-PIECE SPLIT BAMBOO BAIT CASTING TRADE ROD "MADE FOR MACY", WITH ORIGINAL HEDDON BAG. This remains the only example I've ever seen of Heddon's highest-grade bait rod built to be sold through another company which, in this case, was the R.H. Macy & Co. of New York (Macy's). It is built almost exactly the same as Heddon's 1930-1931 No.25 "Golden-Expert", with the only differences being the reel seat hardware is finished in gunmetal instead of gold plate and it was only equipped with the single tip section. The "Expert" series from James Heddon's Sons were, without question, the finest production bait casting rods ever built. My last photo is a comparison of this rod to a 1931 "Golden-Expert" from my personal collection. It is shown only to point out the identical design and is NOT a part of this auction. Heddon's Cleo Hanley has handwritten "Made For Macy by Heddon" along two flats. These were no doubt built by hand, like all the other Expert models, using only the highest grade browntone Tonkin cane and the finest components available on the market. A very Light action model built on a #1 ferrule and comes equipped with full genuine agate guides & tip top, screw-locking "Screw-Tite" reel seat, beautiful swirled "Heddylin" (early Pyralin) foregrip & reel seat, wound-over winding check, solid cork tournament grip and wound handsomely in two colors of silk. The rod is in solid Very Fine++ condition, showing only limited use. Moderate wear to the reel seat hardware is about the only evidence it was ever fished, otherwise the rod is near pristine. Bamboo is Perfect, with no splits, cracks or delamination whatsoever. Both sections are the correct length and are virtually straight. Varnish remains extremely nice. All 50 individual wraps are solid and complete. All guides, tip top, ferrules and winding check are excellent. The swirled Heddylin foregrip and reel seat are as nice as they get. Reel seat works perfectly. The solid cork tournament grip looks virtually brand new. Put up in the original Heddon-made bag, which is in Extra Fine condition. I have no way of knowing if this model was originally offered with a tube. An absolutely spectacular example of what could very well be the finest quality bait casting Trade rod ever built by Heddon. Extremely tough to upgrade, even if another example of this rarity could ever be found. To be sold in true auction format, with a very low starting bid and NO RESERVE. Buyer to pay $14.00 for bullet-proof, professional shipping via U.S. Priority Mail. Insurance is optional. Payment must be received within 7 days of auction closure. Thanks for your time and good luck.
