Rare piece of Queens,New York history - the sales brochure for the Bayside Hills Residential Park from around 1936. It measures 8" by 5 3"8. There is a map inside the eight page booklet which predates the 1940s northeast Queens map. The price inside is a quote for $4990 - these houses have been known to at times approach the one million mark in the last decade. The neighborhood is as bucolic today as it was touted in this marketing tool. There is mention on the last page of the times the models homes were open for inspection - 9AM to 9PM seven days a week! The homes were built by Gross-Morton and the many modern amenities they've installed are listed on one page. The neighbood is described in detail - one interesting note was plans for a major bathing beach on the Little Neck Bay - I think The Cross Island Parkway spoiled that plan. It is a fascinating read and a must have for a serious Bayside Hills historian. I don't know where you'd find another - there can't be that many original owners left and would they even have one of these amidst their possessions. This type of paper item was often sadly disposed of all too quick. The condition is very good with no tears - the two staples which hold it together show rust but it does not effect the pages or the great look of this vintage booklet. I understand the neighborhood is very proactive about getting their own distinctive "Bayside Hills" designation from the post office and mapping companies which have through the years have attached it to Bayside,Oakland Gardens and even Flushing. This booklet did a great job of talking about the distinctiveness of this neighbood - seventy-five years ago! Thanks for looking.
The mention I made in the listing pertaining to a bathing beach being planned for the Little Neck Bay actually occurs in another brochure I have listed right now. The correct mention in the Bayside Hills publication is that a bathing beach is located five minutes away, which could mean the Little Neck Bay. The other quote occurs in a 1949 pamphlet for the nearby Fresh Meadows Apartments, another listing I have at this time. This was also published for the original prospective residents,as that complex had not yet been completed.
