1935 Rookwood Vase - Crocus Flowers Signed by Kataro Shirayamadani This hand painted Rookwood vase was decorated by Kataro Shirayamadani. It measures 6⅜ inches tall (6.375) and has three crocus flowers across the front. The bottom has Shirayamadani's black hand painted underglazed signature in Japanese characters. It also has the impressed Rookwood logo with the Roman numerals XXXV for the year 1935. Below the date an impressed letter "S". It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, hairlines, or repairs. I initially thought t was crazing to this piece but the glaze is completely fused. It appears that a translucent glaze was laid over the colored glazes of the flowers. Crazing lines appear to have existed at some point during the firing process and small amounts of color, w it is present, moved into these lines and was then was later fused into the glaze. The interior of the vase is clean and does not have any staining or crazing. It is a beautiful vase would make a great addition to any collection. I have another Rookwood vase up for sale so please visit my other auctions. Money Orders or Cashiers Checks preferred, or:
