You are looking at a set of the four different notes that were printed for the 1935A series $1 silver certificates in the S-C block.That's right, what could have been like so many other blocks of silver certificates, all the same; this block in this series was of the most interesting sets of notes issued.In this group you will find: -one standard issue silver certificate-one Hawaii emergency issue note-one overprinted experimental issue note with the bold red R -and one overprinted experimental issue note with the bold red S Each note is collectible in its own right, however putting a set of them together can be a bit of a challenge. As so many of what should have been regular notes were taken up by the special issues, the 'regular' S-C note is much less common than other full blocks. The Hawaii note was an emergency issue for distribution in Hawaii so if Hawaii were overrun by the Japanese in WWII it could be demonetized, taking cash out of the enemy's hands.The R & S notes were an experiment to see if changing the composition of the paper used in our currency could be changed- or if it needed to be changed. R was regular paper, the S was special paper...as with previous tests, the results were inconclusive and the paper used then remains the same today.All are well circulated, I'm not a professional grader, but I'd guess these read more
