A tremendous example of an original, desirable and popular note. The cameoed portrait of Washington is bold and surreal on this fantastic world war 2 relic. A thrilling and exhilarating epic and eye popping dream dollar of historic implications. Once upon a time, a man named Sol Yamaguchi narrowly survived the bombing at Pearl Harbor. He was a half Jewish and half Japanese American citizen living in Hawaii. When told to report to a Japanese internment camp, he fled to Canada till after the war. When finally able to return after the end of the war, he put away 4 original packs of $1 Hawaii notes. A fortunate man, he invested in hotels in and around the famed Waikiki beach and never had to sell his notes. When he passed, each of his three children kept a pack of these keepsakes. We were fortunate to acquire the fourth pack and offer it after certification to our clientelle individually. Sol, a colorful character, always told everyone he planned on opening a Jewish Japaneese restaurant, and he would name it, Sosumi. Truly the chance of a lifetime to honor this tragic chapter in a great Americans life! After the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941 (“a date which will live in infamy”), a major question was whether or not they would invade Hawaii sometime fairly soon afterwards.
