Matching 1936 German K98 WWII Bayonet & Scabbard This is an apparent WWII Vet bring back. The original owner had apparently died and this was found in his attic somew in North Dakota . Evidently, this had been in his possession since the end of WWII when he brought it back home. This is a Matching German WWII Bayonet & Scabbard with a production date of 1936 on both the Blade Spine and just below the Scabbard Throat. The Manufacturing Code "S/241" (again on both) indicates it was manufactured by Clemen & Jung. The Serial number, "282" matches on both the Bayonet and the Scabbard. Because t is no "letter" prefix or suffix, this means that at the production facility S/241 in 1936 this was only the 282 nd bayonet and scabbard produced! The WaA marking on the Flash guard is rare, and is an early imperial eagle with the numbers "251" indicating it's origin was Erma, Erfurter Maschinenfabrik, Berthold Geipel GmbH, Zietenstr. 54, Erfurt , Thüringen. The wooden handles are in very good shape, they are both smooth and splinter free. The right wooden handle does have a crack in it that measures about one and one half inch in length. I did not remove the handles to inspect, I do not have the correct spanner wrench and I was afraid of damaging this beautiful bayonet. The Bluing looks very even, with some ware spots on the scabbard. The Blade appears to have been sharpened at some point, but I am not sure by who or when. T is bluing over the apparent sharpened portion of the blade, so perhaps it was re-blued? The Frog Stud on the Scabbard is solid and is not lose. The Press Stud functions flawlessly, and it locks back into place precisely. The Original Leather Frog still has the makers stamp on the rear; however it is illegible past "19." I believe it to be original to the Bayonet and Scabbard. The rivets are intact, and the stitching is still good. The strap is still useable, and overall it is clean for it's age. Please Know Your Local Laws regarding Importation of Edged Weapons! I can not possibly know all of the laws world wide! If this ships international and is refused by YOUR customs I will refund what you paid, MINUS the postage to return it to me in USD. Overall for it's age and apparent usage I would rate this bayonet at NRA Very Good to Excellent Condition. Thank You for looking and Good Luck!
