1938-D BLACK DIAMOND BUFFALO NICKEL 5C MS65 PCGS This 1938-D Buffalo Nickel has been certified and graded MS65 by PCGS. It is a nice, lustrous, attractive coin with no major problems or distractions! The coin is featured in the PCGS brand new Black Diamond holder, offered here for the first time, exclusively at this time! Black Diamond was a buffalo housed at the Bronx Zoo, and according to legend was the model for the US Buffalo nickel introduced in 1913. The coin was designed and sculpted by James Earle Fraser in 1911. Sick and disabled at age 22, Black Diamond was put up for auction in 1915 but received no bids. He was later bought by a game poultry dealer who slaughtered him on November 17th that year. "Black Diamond Steaks" were sold for $2 a pound. This coin will make a great addition to any collection!
