1938-D Black Diamond Buffalo Nickel 5C MS 65 PCGS
This 1938-D Buffalo Nickel has been graded and certified MS65 by PCGS. In addition, it is housed with a Black Diamond Buffalo label! The coin has a golden tone and is lustrous! This coin will make a nice addition to any collection! Black Diamond was a buffalo housed at the Bronx Zoo, and according to legend was the model for the US Buffalo nickel introduced in 1913. The coin was designed and sculpted by James Earle Fraser in 1911. Sick and disabled at age 22, Black Diamond was put up for auction in 1915 but received no bids. He was later bought by a game poultry dealer who slaughtered him on November 17th that year. "Black Diamond Steaks" were sold for $2 a pound.
