Up for auction is a beautiful first edition, thirteenth impression copy of the 1938 Arctic Exploration Book "Alone" written and signed by Admiral Richard E. Byrd and published by G.P. Putnam's Sons New York . This 296 page book is in excellent condition with very slightly off white pages but no foxing, tears or other issues. The original dust jacket shows very little wear with no rips or tears and was carefully enclosed in plastic to protect it from any damage. Clean dedication and signature by Admiral Byrd on the first page. I also have a second signed copy from the same collection that will also be up for auction. Low starting bid and no reserve! Rear Admiral Richard Evelyn Byrd, Jr. , USN (25 October 1888 – 11 March 1957) was a naval officer who specialized in feats of exploration. He was a pioneering American aviator, polar explorer, and organizer of polar logistics. Aircraft flights, in which he served as a navigator and expedition leader, crossed the Atlantic Ocean, a segment of the Arctic Ocean, and a segment of the Antarctic Plateau . Byrd claimed that his expeditions had been the first to reach the North Pole and the South Pole by air.
