Original SOUVENIR PROGRAM for the 1938 Kentucky Derby, held May 7, 1938 at Churchill Downs. Featured on the cover is the 1937 winner, War Admiral. This 116-page soft-cover publication is about the size of a Life magazine, 13 by 9-1/2 inches. It is well illustrated and contains extensive advertising. Featured contents include pictures of the Kentucky State Racing Commission, an 18 photograph "picture story" of the 1937 Kentucky Derby, Churchill Downs Track records, a "Complete Detailed Story of the Sixty-three Kentucky Derbies," four photos of dead heats, Kentucky Oaks winners, the Ten Broeck-Mollie McCarthy Race, a description of the Churchill Downs Organization, a list of official entries in the 64th (1938) Kentucky Derby, a condensed history of the Kentucky Derby from 1875, and pictures and background on the 1913 field of entrants. Advertising in this publication is extensive and just as interesting as the editorial content.
