'S A WONDERFUL POTTERY PIECE - ONE TO GET EXCITED ABOUT!! This is an auction for: ONE (1) Vintage Sculpture This AWESOME pottery sculpture was made by FRANKOMA and has one of their EARLIEST MARKS . This mark was only used from 1934-1938 and is an impressed mark with a round "O" in "FRANKOMA". From this particular mark, I know that this piece was made in the NORMAN facility which would be completely destroyed by FIRE in 1938, just a couple of months after they had moved to their new facility in SAPULPA . This sculpture was designed by RAY MURRAY circa 1938-53 and then was re-issued from 1972-93 and then again in 2000. It is titled "Indian Chief" or "Comanche Chief" and is mold number 143. The color is called " GUN METAL " and it was only used from 1933-1938. In the NORMAN fire, ALL of the METAL GLAZES (including this one) were destroyed and this color would not be created again until the 1970's - renamed FLAT BLACK. SO ....that makes THIS particular sculpture QUITE RARE !! It was one of the FIRST of its kind to EVER be made!! How COOL is that?? The 1990 book value for him is $250-$300; but in THIS color, he could be worth MUCH, MUCH more! It is in BEAUTIFUL condition too with NO chips, cracks or dings!! The coloring is pretty neat too - in some areas, the glaze has GREEN peeking out and even the light ADA clay color shows
