Smokey Stover and the Fire Chief of Foo by original creator Bill Holman. A Penny Book issued by Whitman Publishing Company and licensed by Famous Artists Syndicate in 1938 near the end of the Great Depression. Very hard to find existing copies nowadays. The book features Smokey the firefighter, in his two-wheel firetruck called the "Foomobile". Smokey's truck is similar to the recent Segway scooters, but predates them by about 6 decades. The word Foo was one of many nonsense words that Holman used in his stories that was later taken up by World War II pilots, who described UFO's and mysterious aerial phenomena as "Foo Fighters". The book is in Very Good condition for it's age and format.
