You are bidding on a circa 1938 Truetone model D-724 table radio for parts or for restoration. Truetone was a radio brand sold by Western Auto Stores. Chassis markings indicate that this set was made by Detrola. I originally intended to restore the radio, but the cabinet work is beyond my capabilities (it could use a refinish or repair, which I never attempt)! The radio is an 8 tube superhet with broadcast and shortwave bands. The set has an eye tube and tone control. I own a similar Truetone radio (same chassis with motorized tuning), and with its large solid cabinet, 8" dynamic speaker and push-pull audio output, it can sound great! This radio has not been restored. It does power up and the tubes light up, but t is NO SOUND. It is being sold AS IS since the condition of the parts are unknown (except the power transformer, which apparently works). Looks like all the parts and tubes are t, including the tube shields and chassis mounted original filter capacitors. The grille cloth is obviously torn, and t is a hole in the speaker cone - looks like it can easily be repaired. One knob is missing. I will supply a replacement bandswitch knob which matches the remaining knobs. However, it is a PUSH ON type rather than set screw type. So you will have to file a flat on the bandswitch knob in order to use it. The plastic dial cover is cracked read more
