Original promotional item given out by ParamountStudios in 1939. The movie and this spike commemorate the 70th anniversary ofthe completion of the first transcontinental railroad. The spike measures 5 7/8 inches long and along the four sides it says, "Cecil B. DeMille's Union Pacific, Starring Barbara Stanwyck - Joel McCrea, 20th Anniversary Completion First Transcontinental Railroad, A Paramount Picture". The premier was in Omaha, Nebraska. They had a three day festival called "Golden Spike Days" which featured parades, dinners, cast member appearances, etc. These spikes were given out to people that attended the premiere. Additional spikes were given out at both the East and West Coast premieres. Not cleaned, decided to leave in “as found” condition--some folks like an aged patina, others like shine--winning bidder can clean if desired. Would make a nice paperweight or display piece for the train aficionado or movie buff.
