This auction is for a terrific, very nice, tough, and desirable 1939 WORLD SERIES PROGRAM NY YANKEES at CINCINNATI REDS. Yankees won 4 games to 0 for Manager Joe McCarthy over Bill McKechnie. Fourth straight Series win for Yankees, second consecutive by 4 games to 0. 1939 Yankees rated one of history's greatest teams, led by Joe DiMaggio's .381 BA, went 106-45 in winning by 17 games. Clean and unscored for a game at CROSLEY FIELD. Reds won first Pennant since 1919. Small stadium and Series sweep makes this a difficult program. Lou Gehrig, in last Series ever as honorary captain, is listed in roster and in team photo (pictured). Willard Hershberger who has the tragic distinction of being the only active major league player to commit suicide (during the 1940 season) is also pictured as a Reds catcher for 1939.

In Game 3 at home, the Reds grabbed a 3-2 lead in the second inning on the strength of four singles. After that, it was all Yankees.
