For auction is an original 1940 WW2 German K98 BAYONET . This piece would complete your historic rifle and/or collection perfectly. Blade Marked cof . It was made by Carl Eickhorn Waffenfabrik in Solingen, Germany in 1940 . 1940 was the first year Carl Eickhorn used the "cof" war-time code. They used it only in the last part of the year. It is a rarely seen marking for this year. Marked with serial number 9652 m . The inside part of the release mechanism is marked with the last two digits of the serial number " 52 ". The blade spine is marked 40 for 1940 . Marked with four Waffenampts (factory proof marks). T are two Eagles and WaA883 stampings on the rear of the pommel, one Eagle and WaA883 stamping under the rear of the flashguard, and one Eagle and WaA883 stamping on the release button. The brown/black bakelite grips are in very nice shape. The blade has not been sharpened. T is some wear along the edge on the serial number side, but I am pretty sure it was not a sharpening attempt. It is not along the entire edge and the other side has no marks at all. Maybe a manufacturing goof. T is ~95% of the original blueing left on the blade. The missing finish is from going in and out of the scabbard. T is a blood pitting/etching oval on the tip, serial number side, w the blade rests against the deepest part of the scabbard spring. T is corrosion and pitting on the handle metal even though t is plenty of blueing left. T are very small tarnish/corrosion spots on most of the blade.Scabbard Marked DURKOPP 40 and 9652 . Someone put some effort in finding a scabbard that matched the bayonet. It was made in the same year and has the same serial number. However, the bayonet and scabbard were made by different manufacturers and were not issued together. The spring screw is intact. The finial or ball end is stamped with a Waffenampt Eagle and WaA??? . T are no dents. T is a decent amount of finish left. T is a lot of corrosion and pitting. T are some "cleaning" scratches. Please let me know if you need any other pictures.
