For auction is an original 1940 WW2 German K98 BAYONET with MATCHING NUMBERS . This piece would complete your historic rifle and/or collection perfectly. Please check out the original DAK Afrika Korps Frog that came with this bayonet. It is listed separately. Blade Marked cof . It was made by Carl Eickhorn Waffenfabrik in Solingen, Germany in 1940 . What makes this marking so rare is that almost all of the bayonets Carl Eickhorn made in 1940 were stamped S/172 and not with the maker's name or the new "cof" code. Please contact me for verification of this. The blade spine is marked 40 for 1940 . Marked with serial number 1220 K . Marked with five Waffenampts (factory proof marks). T are two Eagles and WaA883 stampings on the rear of the pommel, one Eagle and WaA253 stamping on the release button, one Eagle partially visible under the rear of the flashguard, and one Eagle and WaA253 stamping on the inside part of the release mechanism. I believe the last two digits of the serial number 20 are stamped over the Waffenampt on the inside part of the release mechanism. The wood grips are in very nice shape with a few minor dents and dings. They are made out of some of the nicest wood I have seen on a K98 bayonet . Most of the original finish is left on the handle metal as well as the blade. T are blood pitting/etching marks on the blade w it rested against the scabbard spring. They are very clearly seen and are most distinct on the "cof" side. The blade has not been sharpened. T are scratches on both sides of the lower half of the blade - Please look carefully.Scabbard Marked with the same markings: cof 1940 and 1220 K . The spring screw is still intact. The finial or ball end is stamped with Waffenampt Eagle and WaA883 . Almost all of the original finish is still present. T are a few minor dings but no rust.Don't miss your chance to own a RARE and beautiful Matching Number bayonet that was used for its intended purpose!!! Please let me know if you need any other pictures. Please bid on this item only if it is legal to purchase and possess it. INTERNATIONAL CUSTOMERS: I have shipped these worldwide with only one problem - Italy (shipped 3, lost 1).
