I now have a lovely selection of 1930's Genuine Galalith Necklaces now offered in my Store, please take a moment to look them over! Each piece is tested & guaranteed genuine Galalith. Galalith is an early 1920's - 1940's plastic from Europe. Very similar to phenolic bakelite in that it must be carved or machined. This necessary hand working creates pieces with the charm and intricacy found in bakelite that is not found in modern costume jewelry or modern plastics. Galalith often has colors & the weight that is similar to Bakelite. It is often confused for other early plastic materials. Galalith as a material is far more rare in North America than bakelite, as its production into jewelry was from Europe, most pre war. Galalith can be hot water tested very easily for its distinctive odor. Exceptional color effects can be found in Galalith as well as the more common white that is resin washed with a myriad of colors. .................... This Galalith choker length necklace is Jet Black over dye.Graduated & intensely carved beads of several styles are present.The largest round bead is 3/4 inch diameter.Carved, hidden 2 piece barrel fastener.
