Vintage STERLING SILVER Cow BELL 70.55 Troy Ounces This vintage hand made bell is from the 1940's and is solid sterling silver. It measures 5¾ inches in height to the top of the attached ring and 4¼ inches wide at the base. It weighs 4 pounds 13.4 ounces (2194.25 grams) (70.55 troy ounces). The interior is marked STERLING BY C.J. SCHRIEVER. The front and back are hand engraved. The front has a landscape scene with a barn and silo, and is lettered BONNIEDALE FARM. The back is engraved with the name RATHBUN WILLARD. In 1916, Rathbun Willard founded a business in Attleboro, Massachusetts called Sensors & Controls. This business provided "gold plate" for the nearby Rhode Island jewelry industry. In 1931 the company merged with Spencer Thermostat Company and became Metals & Controls Corporation. In 1959 Texas Instruments merged with Metals and Controls. Mr. Willard lived in Scituate, Rhode Island and purchased a farm in Glocester, Rhode Island; calling it Bonniedale Farm. On this farm he raised registered Ayrshire dairy cattle and horses. The bell is in very good condition with light scratches and some very tiny dings. The sides of this bell are ¼ of an inch thick. It would be easy to remove the engraving if desired. The bell sounds great and it would make a great addition to any collection. I have some more sterling silver items up for read more
