For your consideration today is this vintage 1940's or tabouts, Stewart Brothers field or linemans telephone box that possibly could be from World War II, and includes a Western Electric ear receiver piece! Shipping is charged at $12.95 in the USA for the large, flat rate Priority box, no bogus packing fee's, and we do sell world wide, just email for quotes. Insurance is recommended , but sold at cost!! If any of you have done business with us before, you know how well we treat our customers, and that we try to describe items very well in order to help you, the bidder, make a sure and confident bid! WE DO SELL WORLD WIDE, BUT THE PRICE YOU PAY IS WHAT WILL SHOW ON THE CUSTOMS FORM! So, welcome new or return buyers, and we ask that you read on about the neat item we are selling, and be sure to read all the info as well!! Please do check out the pictures very closely as well! This is a very heavy outfit that is marked on the side with Stewart Bros. Inc of Chicago 44, Illinois, the head piece is marked Western Electric with the battery clamps being marked Mueller Electric. The item consists of an oak box that has the magneto inside, the crank on the outside, a jack inlet for the ear piece, the headset for the ear including the jack, t is a button on the top for probably receiving, then two wires that have clips on each end for what appears to be for attaching to a battery. It has a very heavy leather cover and strap, as well as buckles on the front. Again, we are not sure if this is a field telephone from around World War II or if it is a lineman's phone for testing equipment. Any good help is sure appreciated! We did not open the box to see what it all looks like inside, but the magneto has to be in t since it is very heavy on one end of the box. The pkg weighs in at over 12 lbs. but with the large flat rate priority shipping, it makes it much better cost wise. T are so many screws to take off to get inside, but if need be, we can make sure it looks ok. The crank turns the magneto well with some good resistance, the crank is solid but has losts its finish, but still works fine. The box is made of oak, t is a lot of wear and tear as well as loss of original varnish and finish, but the wood remains very strong, with only a couple spots w t is a stress crack, but nothing bad at all. This would be a very neat piece refinished as the grain is quite nice. The box is supported with brass straps that cover each corner, so t are 8 of them, and all are in place well. The top of the box has the inlet for the headset, the plastic button for receiving or transmitting, we assume, then another spot that appears to be for power that has a glass over it. T are two battery clamps attached to 36" cords, they have some wear but still intact ok, the head set is marked Western Electric and is part bakelite and metal in material, marked 504 w and 80, it is has some general wear but remains solid, and has a wire clip for the head that remains fine, with a cord that is marked Kellogg S & S Co that is over 5 feet long, and in pretty good shape yet. The buckles still work ok on the front but do have some wear and tear, the very heavy leather top remains in solid condition with no tears or holes, it does have quite a bit of surface wear and some stains, but think it might clean up a lot better with a good leather cleaner. The buckle attachments are both good, the inside of the flap has a spot w the headset can be stored, t is a very heavy duty leather strap that is very strong yet, but also has a lot of wear and tear to the surface, and also pretty stiff. That also might clean up better. The name plate remains good overall but has some scratches on it. We really do not know what parts might be missing from this set, so the item is sold as is. Very neat unit that we think is getting towards 60 plus years old! This is a pretty solid outfit that has some very good parts, and would be a fine addition to any vintage telephone collection! Thank you very much for your interest, and please try to email ...
