Vintage Virgin Mary Immaculate Conception Miraculous medal. Covered with a rose pendant, a 3 layer sliding medal, marked sterling silver, oval. St. Joseph in two images also, on the inside of one cover. Marked: "Sterling M" Both outer layers have an open, rose motif. One underside has A small oval image of Mary and of Jesus. The other has two images of Joseph. The center layer has one side with the Virgin, bordered in the etched saying: "O Mary Conceived Without Sin Pray For Us Who Have Recourse To Thee 1830" The year of 1830 is at the base of her feet, where she stands upon what is supposed to be the world, and is the year that the idea for the design was said to be given Saint Catherine Labour, by the Blessed Mother. The underside of the center layer has the twelve raised stars represent the Apostles. The cross can symbolize Christ and redemption, with the bar under the cross a sign of the earth. The “M” stands for Mary, intertwined with her initial and the cross. The two hearts represent the love of Jesus and Mary for mankind. Size: 11/16" x 1" x 1/8" deep or 1.8 cm x 2.6 cm x .3 cm Weight: 10 grams Condition: Excellent vintage used condition. There is very little wear except for a bit of scratching, mostly on the inner sides where one medal slides closed against another. This piece has not been cleaned so as to preserve the aged
