For bid is an original 1946 WorldWar II Oakland, California “United States Hospital” HISTORY BOOKLET with 48 pages full of photographs and information about the wartime events of the hospital which was located at the Southeast area of Oakland, at the grounds of the Oak Knoll Golf Course (long-defunct). The hospital remained on the site until roughly 1996. This terrific piece of Oakland wartime service has terrific photographs of the operations of the hospital during WWII. The booklet features the hospital’s logo on the front cover, embossed in gold lettering into the blue cover. The first few pages give a brief history of the hospital with an aerial photograph showing the buildings of the hospital. The history was printed sometime after July 1, 1946. The booklet covers July 1, 1942 to July 1, 1946. Captain Arthur H. Dearing, United States Navy, was the “Medical Officer in Charge and his portrait is on a page inside with his message and his facsimile autograph. Captain Harvey E. Robins was the Executive Officer. This hospital offered services to servicemen returning from the fighting in the Pacific Theater. It was a rehabilitation center and hospital for military men returning from fighting the Japanese on the Pacific. The pages show photographs of the buildings and services available at the hospital.
