Up for auction is a beautiful airmail cover from Cherbourg, France to a sergeant Leon Pitnereres, a French volunteer with the Waffen SS fighting on the Eastern Front against the Red Army. Also cancelled in Levast. Stamp on cover is the privately issued propaganda semi postal stamp issued by the LVF, Action Committee for the Legion of French VOlunteers Against Bolshevism, it was designed to raise money for the French SS soldiers. it had no postal significance but could be put on mail for propaganda and recrutiing purposes. This cover has the propaganda stamp on it (note it has a regular postage stamp on it to actually pay the postage) . Extremely rare on cover. Beautiful stamps and cancels. Postmarked May 11, 1942.
