1942 RCA Model 29K Floor Radio w Magic Loop Antenna The purchaser of this radio was lucky, just a few months later the United States would order a halt to its production to focus the industry on war demands. Just imagine a family sitting around this RCA Victor Model 29K radio and the first stories in late 1941 early 1942 was battle news of the air war in Europe, Rommel in North Africa, the Japanese invading the Phillipines and possibly, just possibly this radio broadcast the first news of Pearl Harbor and Roosevelt's "this day will live in infamy" speech. The 9-tube, 3-band radio plays well and doesn't exhibit any signs of weak tubes. The radio receives a number of stations with good volume. The dial drive is a little stiff and the switches need cleaning. The 3-bands are A - Standard Broadcast, B - Special Services and C - Short Wave. The wood case is in fine shape with no chips in the walnut wood veneer or the mahogany inlay. The case is walnut veneer with mahogany inlay pieces and has been refinished, it has some sanding marks and a spot of solvent appears to have been spilled just to the left of the dial face, The U area around the dial face has not been refinished. One small scratch on upper right side and a few dents and scratches throughout and around the dial face but nothing serious. The speaker fabric appears to be original. read more
