They were issued to British infantrymen & comandos as part of their personal equipment. 50.5 cm ( 19.88 inch ) long overall (blade & handle) with a 37 cm ( 14.57 inch ) single edged long blade marked with the maker’s details: (Boar's Head Hallmark) ENDURE JOS H BEAL & SONS CAST-STEEL SHEFFIELD The handle is engraved with the Broad Arrow of the War Office: /|/ II Comes in the original leather scabbard with the maker’s details, date and the Broad Arrow stamped on the rear of the belt loop: J.B. BROOKS & Co. Ltd 1942 /|/ 103 The British War Office mark of the broad arrow was applied to primarily military items in order to indicate something is the property of the king. The makers, Joseph Beal & Sons , were a small Sheffield cutler firm, who made blades adapted for colonial markets around the world. Their blades have been found on a Native American sword, a Burmese knife and an Indonesian dagger. The leather scabbard measures 51.5 cm ( 20.28 inches ) long. Condition: The knifes blade appears to be sharp and in good used condition, showing age, usage and surface wear that are to be expected in a vintage piece - but nothing that detracts from its beauty or its function . The brown bakelite(?) handles are full and tightly, held in place by 5 pins The leather scabbard is in beautiful brown-reddish color with some minor wear and a very small open stitching near the edge. These flaws only add to its character and are expected in a vintage piece. A great WW2 personal item for your collection and a wonderful addition to any collection of vintage army knifes. Quite HARD TO FIND after 67 years! Original WW2 British jungle machete with their original scabbard are very rarely offered for sale.
