Full-Size 1943-44 Pennant Philadelphia Phillies (as the Blue Jays) ______________________________________ The offered felt pennant represents one of the most abbreviated moniker runs in sports history. This 28-1/54"-long flag was crafted in either 1943 or 1944 to show support for the Philadelphia Blue Jays. While that city's National League installment maintained the same stadium, roster and fan base as the "Phillies" had, new owner Bob Carpenter, Jr. adopted the "Blue Jays" moniker to detract from a tarnished image left from previous owner William Cox, who was barred from the game for gambling. The offered pennant has "Phillies" (complete with stars to dot the "i's") in yellow appliqu, but just to the left, a bird logo is applied in like fashion, dating the relic to either 1943 or 1944. The vertical yellow felt strip at the far left (to facilitate insertion of a pole) is completely intact. The item shows (EX) overall appearance, with minimal cracking about the appliqu elements, two creases and faint random stains throughout. see the scans and judge for yourself Email with and questions ...
