For auction is an original 1943 WW2 German K98 BAYONET . This piece would complete your historic rifle and/or collection perfectly. Blade Marked ab . It was made by Mundlos AG in Magdeburg Nord, Germany in 1943 . "ab" was the war-time code for this manufacturer. Magdeburg is just west of Berlin. The blade spine is marked 43 for 1943 . This is the only bayonet I have seen that has a two-digit year stamp on the spine and was made after 1940. Marked with serial number 7728 C? . I have a question mark with the C because it appears to be an upside down C. Marked with four Waffenampts (factory proof marks). T are two Eagles and WaA313 stampings on the rear of the pommel, and one Eagle and WaA313 stamping partially visible under the rear of the flashguard, and one Eagle and WaA313 on the lower blade side of the crosspiece . The 313 Waffenampt is rarely seen, probably because the Mundlos bayonets are rare. Also, almost all Waffenampts seen on the crosspiece are on early year bayonets only (late 1930's). The late-war rough machining marks are present. The blade has not been sharpened. The blueing is a nice, deep, dark blueing. The only finish missing is from going in and out of the scabbard and from some minor corrosion. Most of the finish on the handle metal is worn down. T is some pitting on the handle metal, especially on the crosspiece and grip screw heads. T is blood pitting/etching on the blade w it rested against the scabbard spring. The very tip is slightly blunt but may have been made that way.Scabbard Marked 44 asw with serial number 1190 a . It was made by E&F Horster in Solingen , Germany in 1944 . The finial or ball end is stamped with a Waffenampt Eagle and WaA519? . T are some scrapes and scratches along with a couple of small dings. The spring screw is missing. The last ~1/2" of the blade insertion is a little snug. It has a phosphate finish. It is in very good shape. Please let me know if you need any other pictures.
