ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY / SCRIPT of SONG OF THE OPEN ROAD, the debut film of teenage singer JANE POWELL. Includes scenes with EDGAR BERGEN / CHARLIE McCARTHY and with W.C. FIELDS in one of his last film appearances. .Draft Screenplay, dated 11/26/43 at the top of the white pages, and with blue pages dated from 12/11/43 to 12/21/43 and yellow pages dated 12/17/43 to 12/21/43 inserted in a number of places. The blue and yellow pages indicate changes to the script. The film was distributed by United Artists in June 1944. Original Mimeographed Screenplay, blue paper covers with a handwritten title label, mimeographed sheets printed on one side only, 8.5” x 11”. Script begins with page “1”, there are no title pages to this draft screenplay. There are 134 numbered pages, plus a couple of “A” and “B” pages (e.g. 85, 85A, 85B). PLUS, the EDGAR BERGEN scene script is numbered separately and inserted between scenes 35 and 36 (pages 17 and 18). The Bergen scene is 10 pages long, with the pages numbered at the top “BERGEN - 2” etc. Pages are 3-hole punched at their left margin, and bound with 2 brass brads. Pages 119-134 (shots 169-179) include scenes with W.C. FIELDS and EDGAR BERGEN / Charlie McCarthy.
