Up for sale is a 1944 Ernest Mooney Warther Commando Knife. The knife is 1 of only 1100 made by Warther during the 2nd ww. It consists of a less common 8" blade, most common were 7". The blade is in excellent shape. There is no pitting or rust, it still has the original swirl cut sharping marks made when mooney originally made the knife, so needless to say it has never been sharpened or ground in any way its all original. The handle consists of cocabola wood, and brass for the hilt and tip of the knife, which also makes the knife slightly more rare, most were made with aluminum for the hilt and tip of handle. The handle also consists of an inlay of brass on each side, one is the serial number to the knife when it was made and the other is the name of whom the knife belongs to which is my great uncle, the knife was passed down to me. This Knife has only ever been in my family. The sheath is in excellent shape as well. The front of the sheath is made of copper, the backside stainless. It even has the leather liner at the bottom of the sheath to protect the knife. I have had this knife down at the Warther Museum in Dover Ohio to be appraised by Ernest Warthers sone Mark. This is a great piece of ww2 memorabilia and it is in fantastic shape. I really don't want to sell the Knife, but due to needing to buy a house i have to let it go...
