The wartime silver Nickel was the result of WWII demand for nickel in 1942-1945. The replaced the nickel with 35% silver. Large mintmarks were placed above Monticello including the first ever Philadelphia (P) mintmark. Wartime silver nickels are a unique variety in the Jefferson Nickel series.
