This is an unbelievable find for a patch collector. Apparently a senior employee's son from the Boston Herald was trying to put a patch collection together for his young son, as WWII ended. He wrote a letter to each division and Army head and requested a patch, a photo and an autograph. I do not know how many positive replies he received, but I got about 70 of them from the estate. If you are into patch collecting, it just not get any better! This is the General of the divisionwith an autographed letter and the original patch there are no questions about the patches authenticity. This letter and patch fro the 2nd infantry is one of the most colorful and sought after patches. It is interesting as General Roberston notes they are in short supply and he does not have enough to give the boy, let alone the troops. Somehow, later the boy rceived one and combined with the letter. The letter and patch are in a sealed mylar covered front with a cardboard backingthe edges of the container are taped to make the seal and in no way impact the contents. I slit the mylar on the bottom of this one to confirm that they are very lightly tacked to the cardboard and can be skillfully removed, should someone decide to do so.The tape marks seen in the picture are on top of the mylar, and not on the letter. All in all this is a very historical and gripping read more
