This listing represents a first for me, It also is a poignant, popular World War II US Navy Souvenir. Here you have a large size, suitable for framing, Domain of the Golden Dragon, passing the 180th Meridian International Dateline souvenir certificate. The Award was presented to an Ensign serving on the USS Yorktown, CV-10. It is dated October 13, 1945 just after the war ended. The certificate is in excellent condition. Crossing the International Dateline was celebrated on board ship. Sailors went through good natured hazings, as well as presented diplomas and wallet sized documents commemorating the experiences. The Golden Dragon was ruler of the 180th Meridian.This particular card is diploma sized. It was issued for crossing the International Dateline. The general theme of the document are dragons, anked blonde women, and a chain. The award is for crossing the 180th Meridian. It was presented to an Ensign, W.M. Shafer, USN, who was serving aboard the fabled Aircraft Carrier, USS Yorktown, CV-10.This document is from the second Yorktown. Originally intended to be christened Bon Homme Richard, this Essex Class Carrier was commissioned in April 1943 as the second (carrier) USS Yorktown to honor the loss of the CV-5.
