1946 Newark Eagles Negro Baseball Leagues Cooperstown Bear Limited Edition #57/1500 Negro Leagues Baseball Black Diamond Series bears are handsome, high quality collectibles that remind us of our history. The plush bears are accurately detailed from their expert hand stitching to their authentic baseball uniforms and caps. Covered in dark, plush fur, they have soft, suede paws and serious, expressive, faces. Eyes are made of glass. Fully articulated limbs and head. These superb bears are 16 inches high. Each bear is a limited edition of 1500.The Newark Eagles were formed in 1936 when the Newark Dodgers , established in 1933, merged with the Brooklyn Eagles , established in 1935. Abe Manley and his wife Effa Manley , owners and founders of the Brooklyn Eagles, purchased the Newark Dodgers franchise and combined the teams' assets and player rosters. Team management was left to Effa, making the Eagles the first professional team owned and operated by a woman. The Eagles shared Ruppert Stadium with the minor league Newark Bears . Under Effa Manley's guidance, the 1946 team won the Negro League World Series , upsetting the Kansas City Monarchs in a 7-game series
