EXPENSIVE BUT WORTH IT... RARE RARE RARE!!! These plates are not only currently DMV clear ... according to the elderly gentleman I bought these plates from, they have NEVER been registered or mounted on a vehicle, ever! They were hanging in his garage since new. The condition certainly bears that story out. They have a little surface patina from ambient humidity, but overall very natural with good color as you can see. They would look excellent on any nice, original, unrestored car. I have given them a light coat of wax, but other than that, they haven't been straightened, fixed, or otherwise messed with. They can be registered on a 1947 car as is, or on 1948 thru 1950 with an extra pair of registration tabs (not included). I would advise using them only on a 1947 car, because they are "dream plates" for 1947-- they don't have any scruffy outline or change of paint color w the year tabs used to be. That is a problem affecting virtually ALL 1947 plates other than these! I contacted the DMV on 11/21/2006, and t is no reason for everyone else to waste their time and sanity calling them (unless you want to, ), because I personally guarantee the plates "DMV Clear" and registerable for 30 days following end of auction.
