This is a program from a game between the San Jose Red Sox and the Stockton Ports at San Jose Municipal Stadium. T appears to be nothing in the program that identifies the season for the game but my analysis of the rosters indicates that it's most likely from 1947. San Jose was a Class C affiliate of the Boston Red Sox in the California League. They were managed by Marv Owen who had a major league career between 1931 and 1940 with the Detroit Tigers, Chicago White Sox and Boston Red Sox; t's a small photo of Owen in the program. Several players on the San Jose squad saw some major league action: outfielder Nino Bongiovanni spent parts of two seasons with the Cincinnati Reds; infielder Joe DeMaestri spent parts of eleven seasons with the Chicago White Sox, St Louis Browns, Philadelphia and Kansas City Athletics and New York Yankees; and Bob DiPietro and Harley Hisner who each had a cup of coffee with the 1951 Red Sox. The Stockton Ports were a California League club unaffiliated with any major league organization. The Ports were skippered by Johnny Babich who pitched in the bigs for the Brooklyn Dodgers, Boston Braves and Philadelphia Athletics.
