A wonderful, highly collectable rectangular Hopi silver overlay belt buckle, circa 1950/60's, hallmarked by noted Hopi silversmith Victor Coochwytewa, who studied with Paul Saufkie and Fred Kabotie. It is a stunningly simple modernistic design, making for a wonderful contrast with the plain silver. Victor was a WW11 Army 161st Division, 167th Infantry Vet before he began actively working in silver in 1947. In 1979 he won Best of Division at Indian Market, Santa Fe. He is in many important collections such as the Smithsonian, DC and The Heard Museum, Phoenix. The quality of his work and designs made him one of the most famous jewelers in Hopi history. In 1994 he, along with Fred Kabotie and Charles Laloma, was honored as an "Arizona Living Treasure". This buckle measures 2 3/8" X 1 3/8", it weighs 31 grams, and it is in excellent vintage condition. Hallmarked with Victor's raincloud and the Hopi Guild hallmark. High bidder to pay $5.50 S/H, which includes delivery confirmation. All sales, as in any auction, are final. If this is not acceptable to you, please don't bid. I accept money orders, personal checks (held awhile), and Paypal. I ship priority mail promptly and payment must be received within 8 days of auction end. I try to describe flaws, wear or damage to the best of my ability. If you have questions or concerns, please email
