He illustrated the seminal "Conquest of Space" with author and space travel evangelist Willy Ley, with new paintings of unimaginable sights throughout the solar system. Willy Ley (1906 - 1969) was a German-American science writer and space advocate who helped popularize rocketry and spaceflight in both Germany and the United States. The crater Ley on the far side of the Moon is named in his honor. His works from the 1950s and '60s are regarded as classics of popular science.
